biofilBioFil Microbiological, Gene-technological, and Biochemical Ltd, (BioFil) was established in 1999 by Hungarian businessmen and researchers working in the field of medicine and microbiology. The objective was to develop and offer farmers products which contained the most advanced and effective supply of microbial nutrients to improve soil structure. Arable fields around the world have been degraded by incorrect tilling methods, excessive use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides, and the more recent devastating effects of extreme weather events.  2015 was designated by the United Nations as the Year of Soils for these reasons, with the objective being to draw attention to this serious worldwide problem.

BioFil products provide a solution for the regeneration of soil damaged or degraded by excessive use of inorganic fertilizers and pesticides and intensive production of arable crops. They help organic farmers to manage cropping efficiently, increase the effectiveness of operating under conventional conditions and help to mitigate the growing adverse effects of climate change.

BioFil has operated for more than 20 years, and it has accumulated a collection of approx. 2000 soil bacteria, each of which have been isolated, systematized and identified for their properties, and is the basis for the development of BioFil’s soil inoculating products.

Based on this collection, the effectiveness of each new combination of bacteria has been studied for 6-8 years in order to provide farmers with the most effective products. All major Hungarian universities and research institutes are involved in the research. The number of researchers and assistants working on each project can number between 40 and 60.

biofilBioFil’s first range of poly-microbial products were 3 soil bacterial inoculants released onto the Hungarian market in 2001 under the trade name of BactoFil. This was followed by an enhanced range of products offered to the market in 2014 under the tradename of BioFil. Initially, this consisted of 4 products that resulted from 8 years of intensive research and development. The BioFil range is constantly being enhanced and currently it consists of 8 products. BioFil products are formulations of beneficial soil bacteria that enable farmers to reduce their current application rates of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers (NPK) in an environmentally friendly, cost-effective way. They improve the soil structure, increase the water retention capacity of the soils, increase the production volume and, along with many other positive effects, help to prevent the harmful effects of pathogenic fungi.

BioFil’s research team is the most knowledge able in Hungary and is recognized globally as leaders in soil bacteria research and product development. BioFil Acidic, Normal and Alkaline soil inoculants provide innovative and complex soil-specific solutions for microbial inoculation and improvement of the structure of soils over a wide range of pH. The company's primary objective is to ensure the highest quality in research and product development, and to offer its products at competitive prices. The company's technical competency is supported by two national patents and has a pending worldwide patent. The high quality of BioFil research is also confirmed by the fact that in the last 12 years it has been the recipient of 8 research and development grants from domestic an EU institutions.
